3 GREAT SENIOR MYTHS
MYTH:
“I received a postcard from my schools contract photographer that says if I don’t go to them, I won’t be in my yearbook. I have heard some of my teachers say so, also.”
FACT:
If you attend a Jefferson County Public School:
This goes against the Jefferson County Board of Educations ruling on this matter. The exact wording on the ruling is as follows:
“No student will be restricted to the use of the assigned photographer. The student will have the option of supplying the yearbook staff with a picture for use in the yearbook providing it meets the specified requirements.”
If you attend a Jefferson County Public School you may go to any photographer for your yearbook picture as long as they meet your schools requirements. According to the Jefferson County Board of Education, you are supposed to receive a letter from each school at the end of your junior year stating what the requirements are for your pictures (i.e. what you are to wear, what color the background is supposed to be, what size the picture is, what the deadline date is, as well as listing some things they will not accept).
If you attend other public schools or a private school:
Your yearbook photographer has been contracted by your school to provide you with a FREE Yearbook Headshot only and the school will only accept the photos from their specified photographer for their yearbook. However, your school cannot insist that you have your other portraits that you would like to give to family and friends taken by the yearbook photographer.
BEWARE!! The contract photographers will sometimes send out information trying to scare seniors into coming to them because they know you don’t want to take a chance of being left out of your yearbook!! Rest assured….if you go to a Jefferson County Public School, they WILL accept pictures from any and all photographers that meet the specified deadline! THE CHOICE IS YOURS!!!
MYTH:
“I’ve called around and found prices that are less at other studios.”
FACT:
There are many ways to make prices seem cheaper, but few ways to do them that would give you the best quality and product for your money. You need to be sure you are comparing apples to apples. Specifically ask about the things that we include at no charge (see “The Morgans’ Difference”). According to what our clients have told us, most other studios use those items as “add-on’s”. When they quote you a price, yes it seems lower but by the time they add on all the ‘extras’ to your picture order, you will have spent much more that you ever expected for your pictures. The other thing is that most of the time you have settled for less than top quality senior portraits and they are not what you really wanted in the first place. Also be very careful that the photographer is not using ink jet prints that do not carry any guarantee. Now, a lot of photographers are cutting prices by delivering you a cheaper product that happens to be ink jet prints. It is worth the small difference in price to have your portraits made at a studio that uses a professional lab that carries a lifetime guarantee! So, it’s easy to see how you could end up paying too much for ‘cheap’ pictures, especially if you don’t like them. Don’t fall into that trap.
MYTH:
“All photographers are equal. I got a postcard from Studio ‘X’ with cool pictures on it. This photographer must be good.”
FACT:
BEWARE!! There are many, many photographers, yes even in our area, that use pre-printed bulk advertising pieces. Those pieces have other photographers pictures on the front and the photographer puts his own wording on the back. In that case, you are NOT seeing what that particular photographer can produce and you have no way of knowing this unless you take that advertisement with you and actually visit that studio, in person. Ask them 2 simple questions; 1) “Who took these photographs on this piece and in your studio?” and 2)”Can we have a tour of your studio and can you show me where some of these images were taken?”
All of the images that we send out, as well as in our studio, are taken by our staff of photographers. You will be able to see that ALL of our photographers are more than qualified to produce the images that you see. We, at Morgans’, highly encourage you to visit other studios and ask questions and then come to visit us. We will show you around and even sit down with our price menu and answer any questions you may have before you book your session. At Morgans’, there are no surprises…what you see is what you will get!
